More than 62 percent of people with disabilities are unemployed, according to U.S. Census data. That is more than six times the overall 9.6 percent jobless rate. One in three works part time, compared with one in five in the general population.
For people with developmental disabilities such as autism, Down syndrome and severe epilepsy, the jobless rate soars to 90 percent, according to Arc, an advocacy group.

New Jersey is home to more than 170,000 disabled people, according to the state Division of Disability Services. That is more than twice the population of Camden, South Jersey’s largest city.
