A few years ago, Karen Conison suddenly realized she probably would live in the same house for the rest of her life yet didn’t know any of her neighbors.fake watches
Then someone stole a car from in front of her house as well as one from around the corner. She and the neighbors started discussing it, and she found out about other problems. People told her they were seeing unfamiliar cars and strangers loitering around their Whitehall community.
The more the neighbors talked, the more they started to band together to reclaim their streets.
“At the first meeting, it was such a diverse group that, right away, everyone kind of looked at each other like, ‘How’s this going to work?’” Conison said. “But then we started talking and found out how much we all have in common.”
Those conversations eventually produced the Whitehall Block Watch, based in the neighborhood southwest of Main Street and S. Yearling Road.replica sunglasses
But it does more than the typical community crime patrols. Residents have helped one another with fallen tree limbs after a windstorm and shoveled snowy driveways for senior citizens. They focus on having fun and getting along, and they hope that knowing their neighbors will make the community safer.

Before the block watch, most people stuck to themselves and didn’t lose sleep about what was going on next door. If there was a snowstorm or a blackout, Conison said she worried about her own family. It never really struck her that a neighbor might need help.
Now, the group has a list of neighbors who can help with chores. When an older man needed assistance assembling a desk, the block watch sent over a college student to lend a hand.
“It’s just nice being able to walk down the street and say hello to somebody you wouldn’t have known before, and you know they’d help you out if you need something,” said Florence Karpowicz,rolex uhren who has lived in the area for 61 years.
